The volvo “Sugga” TP-21
The first Sugga I ever saw was just resting motionless in a parking space in a dull and slow Dutch suburb. Never before have I seen such a vehicle. The only visible Markings were it’s Swedish licenseplate, and a Volvo emblem on the front. I imagined this post-apocalyptic beast must had been raised from an active, broiling volcano by Thor itself.
Later I found out it wasn’t as mythical as one would first suspect. The three tonne weighing volvo had been made for the Swedish army, functioning as a radio wagon. Exactly 724 have been produced in between 1953 and 1958. Based upon the Volvo PV800, it was driven bij a six cilinder 3.6 litre engine. The only significant drivetrain modifications were in the gearing: as the Sugga was intended for off-road driving, it applied a 4-speed gearbox with seperate high and low gearing, as well as a lockable front and rear differential.
